Hexagram 27Nourishment (The Corners of the Mouth)
Upper : Mountain (Gen) - ☶Lower : Thunder (Zhen) - ☳
"The corners of the mouth. Perseverance brings fortune. Observe nourishment and what a man seeks to fill his own mouth."
The hexagram visually resembles an open mouth (a Yang line above, a Yang line below, and emptiness in the middle). It addresses all that enters through the mouth (food) and all that exits (words). To maintain physical and spiritual health, one must monitor the quality of what is ingested and the truth of what is spoken. The true worth of a human being is judged by the nobility of that which nourishes them.
"At the foot of the mountain rolls the thunder: the image of nourishment. Thus the noble man pays heed to his words and is moderate in his eating and drinking."
Moderation is the key. Excess in speech destroys peace, excess in food destroys the body.
This is the phase of psychic nourishment. If you are traversing a difficult period, this oracle asks you: what do you feed your mind? If you constantly absorb anxiety, toxic information, or cynicism (mental 'junk food'), your psyche becomes poisoned. Likewise, what words do you allow to exit your mouth towards yourself? Practice a media and emotional diet. Nourish yourself with the Beautiful and the True.
In information theory, it is the principle "Garbage In, Garbage Out." The future state of a system is entirely determined by the information it absorbs at moment T. Nourishment highlights that your consciousness is not a closed system: it processes the energy of the surrounding quantum field. Choose your vibrational inputs with wisdom.
