"Duration. Success. Without blame. Perseverance is advantageous. It is beneficial to have somewhere to go."
Complementary to Attraction (hexagram 31), Duration is the marriage that follows the courtship. Thunder above, Wind below. It is the constant and regular movement of cosmic laws. True duration is not rigid stagnation, but a succession of cycles, a perpetual respiration. That which is alive moves, yet maintains its central axis.
"Thunder and wind: the image of duration. Thus the noble man stands firm without changing his direction."
Fashions pass, storms blow, but the moral and spiritual axis remains unshakable.
It is the successful integration and stabilization of the personality. You have traversed crisis, illumination, and danger; now you must inscribe this truth into the long arc of time. Jung emphasizes that individuation is not an ephemeral mystical leap, but the patient work of a lifetime. Cultivate inner constancy without becoming dogmatic. Learn to dance with change while remaining rooted in your deep Self.
It is the conservation of energy and momentum (Noether's Theorem). An isolated system preserves its symmetry through time. It is the mathematical beauty of a stable wave function (like the orbits of planets or electrons) which, though in perpetual motion at dizzying speeds, maintains absolute coherence through the ages.
