The lake gathers upon the earth. Water invariably flows towards the lowest point to unify there. The Gathering represents the force of social or spiritual cohesion. However, for disparate elements to form a lasting unity, there must be a strong center of gravity (the temple, the great man) and a willingness to make sacrifices (the great offerings). Unity does not manifest spontaneously; it demands a conscious dedication to a higher purpose.

Where men (or wealth) gather, conflicts and jealousies inevitably arise. Union demands vigilance and protection.
