Hexagram 7The Army
Upper : Earth (Kun) - ☷Lower : Water (Kan) - ☵
"The army requires perseverance and a strong man. Good fortune. Without blame."
Water (danger, perilous energy) is gathered beneath the earth (order, containment). This symbolizes the energy of a crowd or an army, potent yet potentially destructive if not disciplined by a worthy and just leader. It is a time for rigor, strict organization, and strategy in the service of a noble cause.
"Water within the earth: the image of the army. Thus the noble man augments his masses through his generosity towards the people."
A leader does not rule by force alone, but by uniting energies through his justice and dedication. Water nourishes the earth from within.
The Army signifies the necessity to gather and discipline all your dispersed psychic forces. Jung would speak here of structuring the ego in the face of the chaos of the unconscious. To achieve your goal or overcome a major trial, you must cease to scatter yourself. Appoint a 'general' within you (your highest will) and submit all your other impulses (your soldiers) to it with iron discipline, not through repression, but through channeling.
This is quantum coherence. Imagine a classic light bulb: its photons scatter in all directions (incoherent light). The Army is akin to the Laser beam: all photons are aligned in phase, in the same direction. This vibrational discipline creates a colossal power capable of piercing matter. Focus all your energies on a single focal point.
